Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
