Severe Precipitation Exacerbate Circumstances for Uprooted Gazans, Agencies Caution
Persistent precipitation over the recent period have intensified the already dire circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in the region, as reported by aid organizations.
"Horrendous" Weather Poses Serious Risks
A spokesman characterized the previous night's conditions as "awful", with downpours so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the ground.
"Last night was truly horrendous for the residents. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gusts were so powerful," said the spokesperson.
Officials express significant worry that minors residing in temporary structures in soaked garments will fall victim to hypothermia and various illnesses.
Fatalities and Significant Damage
The health ministry have stated that one baby has succumbed from the cold and at least 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins due to the severe weather.
Additional accounts put a higher number of casualties. Officials said that multiple residential buildings had fully given way and scores had collapsed partially.

Assistance Efforts Deemed Inadequate
Groups have escalated distribution of shelter, warm covers and clothes after the truce started, but they have said there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Officials are striving constantly to provide that aid and to hand it out, but the magnitude of the needs is so enormous that we continue to see a great number of individuals and children who are really suffering every night," warned one representative.
Future Issues and Truce Provisions
The second phase of the ceasefire includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of military forces, and other conditions.
Humanitarian groups have highlighted the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet urgent and long-term requirements."
The conflict was triggered by an attack in October 2023. Subsequent campaigns have led to a high number of lives lost in the territory, as per health ministry data.
