England along with Welsh Placed in the Same Group for RWC 2027 in Australia

The pool stage draw was overseen by rugby icons including former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with Wales have been drawn in an identical pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a highly-anticipated early clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This pairing mirrors their infamous meeting in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where a Welsh win at England's home ground contributed to the English team's surprise early exit.

Key Group Draws

Ireland alongside the Scots also share a group together, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. In that tournament, they secured a convincing win, with Scotland unable to advance to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Portugal, both made a strong impression as surprise packages in the last World Cup, complete that Pool D.

Significantly, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F are kept apart from defending champions and world number one South Africa until the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks top their assigned pool.

Tournament Ramifications

If the groups play out in line with the current global standings, other top favourites like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from both England and Ireland all the way to the final.

In that scenario, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on that half of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Tournament hosts Australia find themselves alongside their great rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Pool A.

The Wallabies will kick off the World Cup in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at jump-start the competition.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have drawn the Azzurri, Georgia and Romania. The French team are in a pool with Japan, future hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on Fiji, Los Leones and Canada as the tournament grows to 24 teams from the 20 who took part in France.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a last-16 round for the very first time in Rugby World Cup history.

Although the winner of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's biggest beasts initially, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the last 16.

Four of the other six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
