RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French aircraft in a joint strike against an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory employed by the IS group, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.

The location, pinpointed through intelligence, was thought to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the statement said, and was positioned in hills just north of Palmyra in Syria's central region.

"Our aircraft used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to target a series of access tunnels leading to the depot... early reports indicate the objective was successfully hit," officials stated.

There was no sign of any civilian impact in the attack conducted Saturday night and every plane involved returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.

The Typhoon FGR4s were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.

The Islamic State group - also known as Daesh - enforced extremist governance over large swathes of Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.

"This strike shows the UK's leading role, and commitment to work closely with our partners, to eradicate any resurgence of Daesh and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the minister remarked.

British military aircraft have carried out patrols over Syrian airspace to "forestall any attempted comeback" of the group after its defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the authorities noted.

"I extend gratitude to all the members of the UK armed forces involved in this operation for their professionalism and their bravery," Healey commented. "They were part of thousands of British troops deployed over Christmas and New Year. This operation, to eliminate militants who endanger our way of life, demonstrates how British military are always on standby, throughout the year, protecting the UK within its borders and powerful internationally."

Last December, the American forces executed what it described as a "massive strike" targeting IS targets in Syria, after an assault claimed the lives of two US servicemembers and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.

The U.N. says Daesh still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in Iraq and Syria.
